Calgary, Alberta’s Steve ‘The Dragon’ Claggett (26-4-1, 17 KOs) will hit the road yet again looking to continue his ascent up the world 140-pound rankings when he lands in Boston, Massachusetts on March 17th for a heated St. Patrick’s Day Showdown against popular New England star Danny O’Connor (29-3, 11 KOs) at the famous House of Blues. The bout will be the main event for Murphys Boxing’s latest gala and will include an acoustic set by the Dropkick Murphys.
Claggett, now ranked as one of the best fighters in Canada by Boxrec, is fresh off an October 2017 victory over top rated Yves Ulysse Jr. where the Alberta product handed the slick Quebec star his first professional defeat with a brilliant display of intelligent pressure fighting and cutting off the ring. The victory established Claggett as Canada’s top 140-pound fighter and earned him the IBF North American Super Lightweight Title.
O’Connor was a renowned amateur star in the Northeast United States where he amassed a record of 95-8 including a National Golden Gloves championship. He is a huge draw in New England and is fresh off a November 2017 victory over Daniel Gonzalez where he handed the previously unbeaten New Yorker his first pro defeat via third round TKO to capture the vacant WBC International Silver Super Lightweight title.
“I am proud to announce my next fight will be in Boston on March 17,” Claggett said via Facebook late Thursday night. “It took some work to close the deal but my next bout will be against Danny O’Connor. I have been preparing for this relentlessly since the morning after my last fight. Some fighters shy away from taking on the best in their own backyard, I love it. Bring it on!”
One of Canada’s top emerging talents, Claggett recently inked with KO Night Boxing LLC who along with his team in Calgary were instrumental in setting up this bout.
Tickets for the gala are already on sale and are a hot item, so don’t wait. Get yours now online at LIVE NATION.
