FightFan.com recently caught up with Steve ‘The Dragon’ Claggett at his training camp in Calgary, Canada where he was deep in preparation for his highly anticipated October 27th junior welterweight showdown with fellow Canadian Yves Ulysse Jr. Check out what Claggett had to say about what he expects from Ulysse, fighting in Montreal, his return to 140 lbs and how his training has progressed, only on FightFan.com.
Following his impressive victory against the hands of the threatening Philippino boxer Ricky Sismundo last June, Yves Ulysse Jr. (14-0, 9 KO) will try to repeat the feat and claim hegemony in the super lightweight division nation-wide as he competes with the #2 ranked Canadian, Steve Claggett from Alberta (25-4-1, 17 KOs). The duel, scheduled for 10 rounds, will take place at a gala presented by Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) and InterBox, in association with Videotron, to be held on Friday, October 2, at MTelus also featuring Simon Kean (10-0, 9 KOs), Steven Butler (19-1-1, 16 KOs), Batyr Jukembayev (9-0, 8 KOs) and many more.
“We are very proud to respond favorably to our supporters by presenting this fight between Yves Ulysse Jr. and Steve Claggett. While this is a highly significant confrontation on the Canadian stage, we believe that it has the potential to be internationally significant. These two talented athletes undoubtedly belong to the elite of their division: they are spectacular, dangerous, ambitious and determined to make their mark in their sport” said Camille Estephan, president of EOTTM.
“This is exactly the kind of fight that will allow me to demonstrate my worth as a boxer and also add more depth to my toolbox,” adds Yves Ulysse Jr.
“Ulysses had no idea what he was getting into when he signed this fight. He just woke up the dragon and it will not be a pretty sight,” said Steve Claggett.
As the co-main event of the evening, heavyweights Simon Kean (10-0, 9 KOs) and Randy Johnson (13-2, 11 KOs) will battle it out in a 10-round duel. “As he is a hard hitting lefty, Johnson becomes an unavoidable opponent for Simon if he wants to gain the experience necessary to get a world championship fight or even prepare him for a possible duel against Adam Braidwood,” notes Camille Estephan. “It is all the more exciting for the spectators to watch a fight that will feature two heavy hitters of this caliber in the same ring. It promises to be quite the spectacle!”
The full program of the October 27th gala presented by EOTTM and InterBox in association with Vidéotron, which will also feature Steven Butler, Batyr Jukembayev, Mathieu Germain, David Théroux, Clovis Drolet, Vincent Thibault and more will be unveiled shortly.
