Steve Claggett – Yves Ulysse Jr. all-Canadian clash in the works?

Could another nail-biting all-Canadian clash be in the works? Just weeks after the two top lightweights in the country in Tony Luis and Cam O’Connell threw down in a match-up of’s No. 1 and 2 rated 135-pounders, an equally enthralling light welterweight clash appears to be in discussions. Alberta’s Steve ‘The Dragon’ Claggett recently called out undefeated Quebec based 140-pounder Yves Ulysse Jr. (14-0, 9 KOs).

Ulysse Jr. and Claggett are currently’s No. 1 and 2 light welterweights respectively and the bout would once again pit two of the country’s best young fighters against one another.

Claggett has been surging in the last two years, twice headlining in Las Vegas where he clearly defeated Connor McGregor spar-mate Chris van Heerden (only to be robbed on the cards) and handed highly touted American Emmanuel Robles his first loss – both bouts were seen live headlining on CBS Sports on major network American television.

Ulysse Jr. is equally red hot, reeling off three straight victories in 2017 alone, including a showcase victory on HBO stopping previously unbeaten Zachary Ochoa on the David Lemieux-Curtis Stevens undercard.

Quebec based Canadian powerhouse promoter Eye of the Tiger Management is no stranger to putting their young fighters in tough, pitting Steven Butler against Brandon Cook last year. They are high on their charge Ulysse Jr. and a fight with Claggett would put the winner in line for a global title fight.

There could be some fire where the smoke is with this one, so stay tuned!
