[UPDATE 3-JUN-17]: According to G.Y.M and Team Custio Clayton… his bout is officially canceled and he will no longer appear on tonight’s gala in Montreal. His initial opponent, Oscar Cortez, presented himself at the weigh-in at 171.8 lbs for a welterweight fight. Outrageous. A late replacement was sought but due to lack of time and health and safety concerns as fight night is upon us, the decision was made to pull Clayton from the card. Hopefully he’ll be back in the near future.
Fast rising Canadian welterweight Custio Clayton (11-0, 9 KOs) is a former Olympian and six-time Canadian amateur champion currently making waves in the pro game. One of Canada’s fastest rising stars, the product of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, now residing in Quebec, is looking to standout on Saturday’s huge gala in Montreal in a co-featured bout on the Adonis Stevenson vs. Andrzej Fonfara II card where he’ll take on Mexico’s Oscar Cortez (26-2, 14 KOs) for the vacant WBC Continental Americas and IBF International welterweight titles.

“Just to be on a show with Adonis Stevenson, Jean Pascal and Eleider Alvarez is a very big honour. I get to show myself and get to perform. I want to put on one of the best shows I can and make a statement for my fans and supporters. I’ve wanted to fight at the Bell Centre since I’ve gone pro and now I’ve got my chance and I’m ready to perform on Saturday!”
“We’ve been waiting for a while and for the opportunity to have two titles on the line… I’m very excited for this fight. They’re regional titles but they’ll put me in line for bigger and better things. Then we start moving in a different direction.”
One of the fastest rising stars in the Groupe Yvon Michel (GYM) stable, Clayton is currently ranked as the top welterweight in Canada by Boxrec and is on the verge of entering the top fifty in the world. A boxer-puncher with power in both hands, Clayton is a slick defensive fighter who is gifted in offensive abilities as well.
Montreal area Fight Fans can catch all the action live at the famed Bell Centre this Saturday, June 3, with doors at 6:30 PM / Show: 7:00 PM. Ticket are available online at evenko.ca.
