English warrior George Groves (26-3-0, 19 KOs) is a world champion after collecting the vacant WBA super middleweight world title with a sixth round TKO of Fedor Chudinov (14-2, 10 KOs). It was a good action fight with Chudinov looking sharper early though Groves did have his spots. Despite being behind on the cards Groves had a huge rally in Round 6 and battered Chudinov until it was stopped.
Popular Irish Olympian Michael Conlan (2-0, 2 KOs) picked up the second with of his career under the Top Rank banner with a third round TKO of Alfredo Chanez (4-5, 2 KOs). Conlan was the aggressor throughout and had his foot on the gas the entire fight. A barrage ending in a body shot dropped Chanez in Round 3 and it was subsequently stopped.
Canada’s Ryan ‘The Real Deal’ Ford wins in Singapore via 7th Round technical decision. His power was too much for Robert Berridge and the Canadian was ahead on all scorecards when an accidental cut prompted the bout to be stopped in the seventh. Ford is now 12-0 (7 KOs) with the successful defense of his Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) World light heavyweight title.
Consummate warrior Mike ‘Mile High’ Alvarado returned to action Friday night in Chicago and stopped Matthew Strode (24-5, 9 KOs) in Round 2. Alvarado was in full control and looked to be the stronger man as he simply battered Strode throughout, ending with a big combo in the second to prompt the stoppage.
