Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes primed to headline “Pinoy Pride 5”!
ALA – Cobra presents boxing ont the beach in Boracay!

World Boxing Organization Minimum Weight World Champion Donnie ‘Ahas’ Nietes of the Philippines is scheduled to do an appearance on ABS-CBN’s mid day program Showtime to promote his April 9 bout against Armando Vazquez.

Filipino world champion Donnie Nietes, the second longest reigning pinoy champion in history, will be in Manila this week to attend the 11th Annual Gabriel ‘Flash’ Elorde Banquet of Champions where he will receive a prestegious “Boxer of the Year” award. While visiting Manila this week Nietes has made guest appearances on several local and national television and radio programs at partner network ABS-CBN.

The “Ahas”, with the help of ABS-CBN, is busy promoting his upcoming and homecoming fight in Bacolod City on April 9, 2011 at the St. La Salle Coliseum. The event dubbed as PINOY PRIDE 5: BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS will feature Donnie Nietes against Mexico’s Armando Vasquez. This will be the first fight Nietes will be doing the junior flyweight division and a win over Vasquez will seal the deal for a crack at his second division world championship in said weight class.


Moments ago WBO Minimum Weight World Champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes took time out from his busy training schedule to hang out with ABS-CBN’s prime time stars at the highly rated mid-day program SHOWTIME! and the highest rated morning show Umagang Kay Ganda of the country’s leading television network ABS-CBN.

The world boxing champ started his day with the famous morning show where he invited all the television viewers nationwide to support his April 9, 2011 bout where he headlines ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports’ PINOY PRIDE 5: BATTLE OF CHAMPIONS.

The snake man was interviewed by celebrity hosts legend Rico J. Puno, Donito Rose, Venus Raj, Plinky Webb and Alex Santos.

Moments after the interview, Nietes was whisked away from the lively morning show to the next studio where the phenomenal mid day program SHOWTIME! is showcased.

Nietes joined the crowd and the cast of hosts headed by the infamous Vice Ganda, the sultry Anne Curtis, the very talented Vhong Navarro, the elegant Karylle Marquez and Kim Atienza who did an interview with the Filipino ring hero.

Donnie did the famous routine sample where he showed his talent through shadow boxing in front of the cameras that got the approval of the judges and was awarded ten thousand pesos in cash.

The television appearances over the past week is part of Nietes’ campaign for his first fight now as a junior flyweight. Nietes will be mixing it up with Mexican Armando Vasquez and a win will automatically give him a shot at the junior flyweight belt.


ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink will be taking their boxing road show to the lively shores of Boracay Island, Philippines.

This will be the first time a professional boxing event will be showcased in the world renowned island famous for its sandy white beaches, festive nightlife and amazingly hospitable people.

This boxing event will feature Filipino Flyweight prospect and Kalibo, Aklan native Marjhun Makahilig going up against Ryan Tampus of Metro Manila in a ten round boxing brawl surely to light up the Boracay night sky with explosive fireworks.Agusan del Sur Native Jerson Mancio will mix it up with Cagayan de Oro’s Rodel Tejares in a ten round bout as well.

Punching dynamo Jomar Cardonillo will also be fighting Ryan Makiputin of Cagayan de Oro while Romeo Opranel of Siaton, Negros Oriental facing Jicky Gaco of Boljoon, Cebu.

Opening the fist festival will be Peter Aldrin of Tagbilaran City vs Ramie Crisostomo of Bacolod City and Ryan Canillas vs JV Villan of Iloilo City.

The history making boxing by the beach presented to you by the Philippines premier boxing promotions outfit ALA Promotions and Cobra Energy Drink is also supported by the Provincial Government of Aklan and the Municipality of Malay.

The ALA-Cobra Energy Drink “Tunay na Lakas Boxing” will be held at BOOM BOOM and Pat’s Bar in Station 2, Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island on March 26, 2011 7 PM.

    If Donnie Nietes really wants to seal the deal for a crack at his second division world championship in another weight class he needs to fight a legitimate threat. A victory over another journeyman will not get him a title shot.
