Of course it’s not safe to fight with your mouth open I was thinking exactly the same thing last night. I guess Valero opening his mouth happens due to his aggression.
Valero sure is an exciting fighter yet I still am not so sure how he would do against the elite in his division.
Of course we all know Valero has been wanting a fight against Pacquiao for quite some time now but Pacquiao is busy for the moment therefore that fight may never take place.
I thought DeMarco would give Valero a better challenge especially the way he was talking prior to the fight. I guess DeMarco had too much respect for Valero because he did absolutly nothing but absorb punishment round after round.

dream on dude. pacman will never lose to this guy. pacman will ko him inside 5 rounds……
the guy is an easy target, and his punches are wide. he may have respectable hand speed but his foot work is ordinary. the only thing he’s got going for him is his power and it’s not even a guarantee that his punches will affect pacman if ever he lands them. pacman took cotto’s best shots and did not even shook him.
with valero’s style, counter-punchers like marquez will easily pick him off and knock him out in the later rounds. hell, he might even run into a brick wall if he fights maidana or urango at 140lbs. he doesn’t stand a chance against pacquiao.

I’d like to see Valero take on Michael Katsidis next. He’s a top lightweight and it would make for an all out war.

I would give a slight edge to Valero at this point, only because we saw Casamayor hurt Katsidis several times,
But it would be a helluva fight. Valero was also hurt a few fights back, and Katsidis is relentless.
That might not be the most meaningful matchup, but their styles seem like they’d make for an all out war.
As I was discussing with Ivan through email, I’d like to see them take a top five lightweight fight before looking at a top 135 fight like Marquez.
To me, the talk of 140 and Tim Bradley is really premature at this point for Vallero. I think Bradley would eat him up, Why the need to rush him that fast in weight and class?
Unless his body can’t make 135 anymore, I don’t see the urgency of throwing him in to that tough a fight so soon.
