Freddie Roach on Pacquiao vs. Clottey
Freddie Roach and Manny Pacquiao are currently hard at work training for their March 13 title defense against the rugged Joshua Clottey which will be televised live on HBO Pay-Per-View. Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs), of General Santos City, Philippines, will be defending the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title he earned in his last fight, produced by a 12th round knockout of three-time world champion Miguel Cotto. Pacquiao’s victory made him the first man to win seven titles in as many different weight divisions, with his last three world championships coming by way of knockout. The consensus Fighter of the Year for the third time in the past four years, Pacquiao’s resume features victories over future Hall of Famers, including Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez and Cotto. His knockout victories over Cotto and Hatton made him the 2009 pay-per-view king, exceeding two million buys combined.
Clottey (35-3, 21 KOs), a native of Accra, Ghana, now fighting out of Bronx, NY, captured the International Boxing Federation (IBF) welterweight title in 2008 by trouncing three-time world champion Zab Judah. His career has been a highlight reel of thrills featuring victories over two-division world champion Diego Corrales and undfeated contender Richard Gutierrez and a close decision losse to world champion Antonio Margarito. In his last fight Clottey lost a controversial split decision to defending WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden. Clottey is currently world-rated No. 1 by the WBO and No. 4 by the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Manny Pacquiao’s only downside on this one is if he overlooks Clottey that much.. I hope he doesn’t do that coz Clottey is one hell of a fighter who brings it and this time it’s for Clottey’s country and pride at the highest level.. I am confident Pacman will win this one though..

kabute Says:
Clottey will try to pursue Pac in the first few rounds but the speed and power of Pac will get to him. Freddie is right about granite chins, they have watermelon stomachs. Pac will get him with power body punches and wear him out before homing in for the finish in the later rounds. Pac should stick with the fight plan or Clottey might get lucky.

this is one good show. i like the way clotteys defensive style, fit for pacquiaos offensive moves. both will have a good time in the ring. i just hope clottey would bring in more than he has shown like with cotto, clottey manage to make some rounds to him but not so much, i hope he can bring in more so the crowd would see him not just a punching bag for pacquiao but also a good contender and a posible winner.

Smiling Wolf Says:
Is it just me, or is Roach’s slurring a lot worse now? Parkinsons progressing? Cuz if it completely takes him, Manny’s gonna be lost.
And ooooh, harsh words from him too – Roach literally called Paulie M. a bum. If it’s coming from him, it’s an official decree, not just a comment. ;P

Ace Freeman Says:
I’ve known Freddie for years and I can tell you without question that he’s doing VERY well with his health.
There are times when he’s on camera on HBO when here seems to tense up a bit, but in person he’s very relaxed and fit. He still works out a lot and is in excellent shape.
If anything I think this video shows he’s doing remarkably well.

Smiling Wolf Says:
Ah, cool then. It’s just that I don’t know what Manny would do without Roach – he’s his master afterall.
Back to the fight – Clottey’s gonna need more than toughness to ward off and wear down Manny. I predict a stoppage in the middle rounds.

if clottey push pacman to the rope maybe pacman is danger but wath out but speed and power is advantage of pac. Like cotto pacman pressure in the rope but he can’t connect easily and pacman countered in one punch cotto knock down. Same with clottey one punch KO.
