I must agree w/ Anwar Jamison. Paul Williams has an incredible chin. There was a slow motion replay of Williams getting rocked with a right hook that would have shaken anyone yet he dodges following punch.

I had the fight scored 114-114. Many rounds were close, I thought the 11th round was the closest and gave it to Martinez. 115-113 score for Williams very reasonable.

Pierre Benoist’s 119-109 is just awful. It’s a shame he was a judge for such a close and amazing fight. It’s amazing to see two well matched champions battle it out until the end. Definitely fight of the year!

Sergio Martinez was robbed. Paul Williams is just overrated.

The last thing I question about Paul Williams after that fight is his chin!

The one that knocked him down wasn’t even the hardest shot. The one right they kept showing that completely snapped upper body around made it look like he was gone, but he got it together and dodged the next punch.

I know there are harder punches in the Middleweight division than Martinez, but there aren’t many better boxers who will get shots that clean. Those shots he took would have put knocked many Middleweights out, in my opinion.

I tell you if Minto was as big as Arreola he could have pulled an upset. What a fight for what it lasted. I’d like to see Arreola vs Solis if not against Haye.

As far as Williams vs Martinez I wasn’t able to watch the entire fight therefore I will go back to watching it again. From what I saw it was an exciting war which looked like a close one.

Two great fights this past Saturday. I seriously think Arreola has a lot of potential behind all his “flufiness” and may be a world champion someday. I am still debating about Williams chin at middleweight. I mean he was dropped and stunned by Martinez. So, is it a sign of a weak chin or does Martinez carry some power into the middleweight division? Furthermore, I think either fighter can upset Kelly Pavlik…..yes I said it!

Well said gents,

In that first round I really felt Martinez was bringing what Carlos Quintana used to trouble Williams in their first fight the way he found success with his timing.

But Williams was really on point to use his height and reach and superior infighting to even things up.

I had it very close for Williams, and I too found that 119-109 score deplorable.

Either way, it was a honey of a fight.

yeah, it was an excellent night of fights on HBO.

I thought both Williams and Martinez clearly won enough rounds each that there was no way the scores could have been more than a couple of points apart.

In the end I think Williams edged it, but if it went the other way by a point or two, nobody could really argue.

Both guys showed tremendous heart and determination to try and outlast the other.

It was a grueling battle.

I don’t think either guy was exposed, it was more just two top guys competing their asses off at the absolute highest level.

Williams-Martinez is fight of the year in my opinion. It’s like Rounds 2-4 of Pacquiao/Cotto on repeat.

I’ve heard whispers about the “robbery” talk and I hope I don’t hear much of that. It was a great fight and a close one.

There’s a difference between “harder” shots and “cleaner” shots.

Williams landed more “clean” shots in more rounds, while Martinez landed the harder, more thunderous shots.

Williams showed he has a championship chin. He was hit by at least 10 shots that would have knocked most boxers out.

Hats off to two great warriors.
