Highlights: Pascal outpoints Diaconu in rematch!
By Ace Freeman (11-Dec-2009)

Courtesy of webpresse.ca, watch highlights of WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal scoring a unanimous decision victory over the aggressive Adrian ‘The Shark’ Diaconu Friday night in Montreal, Canada.

The bout was a rematch of their June encounter where Pascal lifted the WBC title from Diaconu in a closely contested decision. Their Friday night clash was another close fight with many exciting sequences. After twelve rounds Pascal was ahead on 118-110 and 117-111 (x2) on the official scorecards to secure the win and retain his title.

Jean Pascal vs. Adrian Diaconu II highlights:

WBC light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal retained his title Friday night in Montreal with a twelve round unanimous decision over Adrian ‘The Shark’ Diaconu. In an exciting give and take bout that closely resembled their first encounter from earlier this year, Pascal was just too busy and too sharp for an aggressive Diaconu. Pascal started slowly but was quick to find his rhythm as he would go from playing possum to exploding into multiple punch combinations that rocked the bewildered challenger.

The fighters traded rounds down the stretch but Pascal’s superior reflexes and boxing ability gave him an edge through the championship rounds, which was impressive as the champion sustained what looked to be a shoulder injury late in the fight. After twelve rounds were complete Pascal was ahead on all three official cards 118-110 and 117-111 (x2). With the win Pascal improved to 25-1 (16 KOs) while Diaconu dropped to 26-2 (15 KOs).

On the undercard former super middleweight champion Eric Lucas thrilled Quebec Fight Fans with a fourth round stoppage over Argentina’s Ramon Moyano, while Canadian middleweight David Lemieux improved to 20-0 (20 KOs) with a two round blow out of Delray Raines.

  1. Ace Freeman Says:

I would really like to see Pascal take on Chad Dawson in 2010.

That would be a tremendous fight as they are both so fast and athletic.

Pascal just has too much speed for Diaconu and he won this fight a bit more clearly than he won their first clash.

I love the way Pascal just explodes into combinations. He’s got such quick hands, and his chin is so good he just loves to put himself in harm’s way to land his own punches.

That’s what makes him so exciting to watch.

Hopefully a big fight like a Dawson one comes off so we can get Pascal down in Vegas or Atlantic City.

It would be great to see him get more US exposure next year.

    why they kept mentioning pacquiao?

  3. Ace Freeman Says:

    Update:

Several sources from Montreal are reporting Pascal’s shoulder injury is very severe. Apparently they popped it back in to place several times so he could continue fighting.

There are rumours that range from a dislocation, to a fracture, to a torn rotator cuff.

It was very gallant of him to fight with the injury, but it appears the damage may keep him out of action for the first half of 2010.

  4. Joe Bruiser Says:

Massive heart shown by Pascal. He was obviously in huge discomfort from that should injury over the second half of the fight, but was still able to punish Diaconu with shots, mostly from the left hand.

And he still managed to throw the right when necessary.

If he would have had two good arms, he would have won by KO.
