Gorres beats Melendez by decision but collapses post fight
By Ace Freeman (13-Nov-2009)

Z Gorres W UD10 Luis Melendez

Photo: Big Joe Miranda

Round 1: Both fighters trading shots in the center of the ring. Gorres using excellent angles and popping his jab well. Melendez using his height and reach well.

Round 2: Gorres back to jabbing. Lands a good combo that backs Melendez to the ropes. Gorres finds success with the straight left and mixes in a few good body shots. Melendez rocked with a big uppercut in the closing moments of the round.

Round 3: Melendez starts out the round with some aggressive pressure. Gorres finding range with his straight left. In the final moments of the round Gorres lands a blistering combination and shakes Melendez. A hard left hand drops Melendez. He is hurt but survives the round.

Round 4: Gorres goes back to boxing and Melendez takes time to move and recover. Another round for Z.

Round 5: Gorres’ jab is controlling the action. Melendez has his wits back but he’s being out-boxed. Gorres uses good movement to thwart Melendez’s aggression and continues to time his left hand well.

Round 6: Gorres beginning to land more punches in bunches. Melendez taking the shots well but he looks to be wearing down. Gorres very sharp with his counter punches and landing his uppercut well. Gorres using good defense to keep out of the line of fire.

Round 7: Gorres goes back to jabbing. Rocks Melendez one minute in to the round. Z’s jab is busting his man up. Very good display of ring generalship.

Round 8: More of the same. Gorres jabbing and using angles well. Melendez showing good determination but he’s outgunned. Gorres too sharp and too accurate. Z continues landing excellent shots to the body. Melendez trots forward but Gorres’ defense and movement gives him little to work with.

Round 9: Gorres following up the jab with the straight left, throwing it straight down the pipe. Most of the action is in the center of the ring where Gorres has the advantage in speed and skill. Melendez rallies late but it’s too little too late.

Round 10: Melendez goes for broke in the final round but Z is up to task. A low blow by Melendez pauses the action but Z is unfazed. With the fight in the bag Gorres boxes well and continues pumping the jab that has served hims so well. SHOCKER: In the fnal moments of the round Melendez rocks Gorrez and drops him hard. Gorres survies the last ten seconds of the round to seal the deal. Decision coming up…

Final Decision: Gorres wins a unanimous decision 98-90 (x2) and 97-91.

Note: Gorres collapsed in the corner post fight and was taken out on a stretcher. Our thoughts are with him and his family as he goes to the hospital for observation.

We’re sad to report that bantamweight contender Z Gorres is in critical condition and undergoing surgery in a Las Vegas Hospital at this moment to relieve pressure on the brain. He collapsed after winning a ten rounder over Luis Melendez. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this great fighter.

and with regards to the fight of Pacquiao and Cotto

it’s too impossible for Cotto, to win over Him. because he is very slow though he has the strength. I see many times how Cotto fights and it’s not bad..

Guys I hadn’t been online in an hour I was traveling back to my hotel and I came back to find someone posting lies.

It was disgusting what I just had to delete.

I spoke to Team Ala and Z is in the hospital. They said they would update me when there is news.

Until then he will be in our thoughts and prayers. I am sure he will pull through.
