Floyd Mayweather Jr. back in the gym Monday in Las Vegas!
By Ace Freeman (16-Nov-2009)

FightFan.com was live on location at Mayweather central today where Floyd Mayweather Jr. showed up for a lengthy workout. Read on for more.

It was my last day in Las Vegas Monday, and I returned to the Mayweather gym where I hoped to follow up on the interview I did with Roger Mayweather last week. I took a seat waiting for the top trainer taking in the usual buzzing activity of various fighters in training and listened to the speed bags humming. Roger was tied up doing pad work so I elected to wait. No sooner had I sat down before Leonard Ellerbe arrived, followed by a lineup of Floyd’s entourage. It was just over 36 hours since Manny Pacquiao’s one sided annihilation of Miguel Cotto, and the ‘Money’ man himself was back in the gym.

Back in the gym is a tad misleading. According to those in attendance, he never left it. The official word around the gym was that Floyd was just there to “stay in shape”. Yet just like the buzz heard all around the world, many in attendance at the Mayweather gym were speculating about a potential fight with Manny Pacquiao.

Floyd proceeded to work out for nearly two and a half hours without pause. He looked fit and in great shape. Starting with some shadow boxing, the pound-for-pound Picasso then switched to a rhythmic session on the pads with uncle and head trainer Roger Mayweather.

After that it was moving right to hitting the heavy bag. The entire gym echoed with grunts from Floyd as he raked his branded heavy bag with hook after hook. The motivational speakers in his entourage bellowed out “There can’t be two best fighters… There’s only one Floyd Mayweather!”

Floyd then moved to the speed bag before ending off with some skipping and stretching. While this was not a training camp session it had an air of seriousness among the eager onlookers and the champ himself.

No word or comment on any kind on fight negotiations directly from Team Mayweather today. The word was mum but it was business as usual. Leonard Ellerbe had his phone glued to his ear all afternoon, and we can only speculate with growing intrigue what was being discussed.

After hitting the shower to slide out in time for Monday night Football, Floyd and his entourage started to make it’s way out. It was the only time today that I heard Floyd mention Manny Pacquiao’s name, as he bellowed out to some onlookers that they should “Come back after I kick Pacquiao’s ass!”

The pride of Grand Rapids, Michigan is always quick to point out that all roads lead to Floyd Mayweather, and hopefully for all our sakes we get to see the Pacquiao express heading straight in that direction.

There appears to be an overwhelming feeling in boxing that a historic showdown is on the horizon. Nothing is confirmed yet, but it is encouraging news to see that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is hard at work in the gym on November afternoon.

HE WHO MAKES HIMSELF GREAT WILL BE HUMBLED,AND HE WHO MAKES HIMSELF HUMBLE WILL BE MAKE GREAT….PUNCHING MACHINE VS TALKING MACHINE….YOU CAN NOT RUN FLOYD AND YOU CANNOT HIDE.YOUR DEFENSE WILL BE NOTHING WHEN PACMAN’S FIST IS COMING..

  18. raeve john Says:

hey!!!!! Mayweather is a good boxer but Paquiao is excellent fighter…….. now, if both them will square off in the ring, no doubt Paquiao will prevail…. we all knew that mayweather is a tactician fighter. but when the brawler attacks the tactician nowhere to hide….. hahahaaaaaaaaaaa train hard…… I think, the big pie will go to pacquiao…. 60/40…

  19. brian Says:

hey floyd, ima let you finish but pacquiao will attack, attack, and attack you like no fighter has attacked you before. did you see how he handled cotto’s punches? floyd, i know you have fast hands, but you don’t have the power like cotto’s…if pacquiao was able to walk through cotto’s power punches, what makes you think you can hurt pacquiao? you better train hard buddy!

  20. Gerogell Says:

One thing for sure the Sr. is expose. Afraid that his son will KTFO in the ring if he challenge paquiao.

  21. Gerogell Says:

Sr. already expose his prediction! He will not allow lil floyd to fight, so no paquiao vs maywether will happen.

  22. pinnakel88 Says:

They asked you if you’ll fight me
And you choked on your reply
I’d rather Arum deal with you
Than mislead you with a lie
And who am I to judge you,
On what you say or do
    The fans are now beginning
    To see the real you…

    And someday when we tats
My LEFT will be too much
That you have to close your eyes
    Where do you hide?
I wanna pound you til you’re white
‘Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna beat you
‘Til you dream and say, goodnight.

You think you are a strategist
That you can insult my pride
    But through your insecurities
    You’re ZERO loss seemed right
    You’re just another fighter
So far from what is true
    An overrated boxer
    Who never gives his due

    And someday when we tats
My RIGHT will be too much
That you have to close your eyes
    Where do you hide?
I wanna pound you til you’re white
‘Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna beat you
‘Til you dream and say, goodnight.

At times I’d like to break you
And drive you to your knees
The fans would like to watch you
    And see your first defeat

    Your huggers understand you
And we know how hard they try
I’ve watched your Dad protect you
And your Uncle loves to smile :biglaugh:

My coach thinks your a loser
    Still searching for a break
You think your odds are better
But then the public bets AGAINST!

    And someday when we tats
My SPEED will be too much
That you have to close your eyes
    Where can you hide?
I wanna pound you til you’re white
‘Til your face breaks down and cry
    I wanna beat you
‘Til you dream and say, goodniiiiiiigggghhhhhttttt!

  27. dagifted Says:

mayweather should start training right now if pacman vs floyd will happened.he should spar 5 best fighter in boxing at the same time so u should come up with the speed of manny,he will experience also what pacman did to his opponents…says:i never see where the punches came from…like i was fighting 20 boxers in the ring..and this is definitely will happened to u floyd…use ur money, hire barera, morales, marquez, hatton & cotto as ur sparring partners.spar all of them at the same time..lol..peace!!

  28. jojoss Says:

  29. jokobo Says:

  30. jokobo Says:

    speed vs speed

  31. preleste Says:

I reviewed Zab Judah _ Mayweather fight and then I was able to recall that mayweather was losing to judah until that accidental low blow which was just used as an excuse by the mayweather corner to assault and choke judah. of course judah was never the same after that strangulation! Mayweather got knock down but that was ignored by the ref. He was hit many times. He wasn’t able to use that famous egg( shoulder) roll of his since judah is a lefty. Pot shooting was in-effective too. All in all pacquiao matches well vs mayweather but should be at the advantage due to his speedy power punches.

  32. preleste Says:

mayweather is asking pacquiao to say ‘yes I wanted to fight mayweather! But wasn’t he mum when Mosley challenged and some sort of insulted him at his very face and hurt his ego after when he swatfly marquez ??

  33. Anonymous Says:

Floyd did 2.45 million against Oscar De La Hoya Pacquiao only did 1.25 million.

Floyd did 1 million against Juan Manuel Marquez

JJM and pacman are lucky if their two fights combined did 800,000.

    Floyd did 940K vs Hatton

    Pacman did 810K vs Hatton.

Look it up people, numbers dont lie. PBF is the cash cow and will get the Lions share!!!!

  34. Techboy Says:

FMJ is a very good defensive boxer, but Hatton has success in the earlier rounds against Mayweather, Pacquiao can pressure Mayweather for 12 rounds, throwing combinations on weird angles, plus Pacquiao has power on both hands! This will be a great fight!

  35. Gerry Prinkt Says:

Miguel Cotto is FAR powerful and better than Mayweather Jr. The Money boy is even scared of him.

  36. Roach Says:

    Hey Floyd,

Remember me, don’t make mistake to fight my boy. I have the blueprint to knock you out since the Dela Hoya fight. Until now it’s still in my head. Don’t forget what i’d said before that for all 3 supposed opponent of PACMAN namely Mosley, Cotto & Mayweather. I told the media that you are the easiest one to handle because you don’t have a knock out power at higher level. The hardest opponent of PACMAN is Mosley that is why until now you still ducked him. We are now 1 down for whom you ducked and your NEXT IN THE LINE.

  37. Bryson Bell Says:

PacMan can only throw those non seeable punches when hes is up close, brawling, and he is still left wide open. Thats where Cotto and all the others failed. They lacked the discipline to pull the trigger. Cottos Defense was (gloves up and take the hits). Thats not a good strategy. PacMan must be beat to the punch. He also plays too much in the ring hopefully he will get serious when Mayweather cuts that right eye of his with his straight right hands.

  38. A-Rah Says:

They are both extreamly fast, strong and accurate. The difference is that Manny uses his offense as his defense and keeps his opponets off their game. That won’t work with Floyd. There are to many holes in the Pacman’s defense as in…..he doesn’t have any. When his barrage of punches from all angles runs out it will leave him wide open to crisp open shots. Floyd in 10.

    Rah

  39. King of Kings (pacman) Says:

oh yes mayweather did million pay-per-views but not alone dumb@ss… and the most important is the post fight reaction. Are they satisfied on every fight done by mayweather? stop using “oh mayweather did millions ppv”. read all forums of post fight of mayweather even floyd’s fan got a nap during mayweather fight because it’s sooooo boooooring.

On mayweather ppv, i need to make 10 coffee for not to fell asleep.

On Pacman fights or ppv, you don’t want to blink or can’t even go to the c.r to spit.

That is why some said boxing is dying because of an overated boxers who talks too much but fight less to become undefeated.

The real boxing is all about entertainment and thrill.

Who is the boxer that gives best and thrilling fights and worth a penny of ppv?

    Pacquiao or Mayweather?

  40. Melly Mel Says:

Pacquiao will put Mayweather to the test. Hey Mayweather… just fight Pacquiao. The money is there to begin with. You won’t get the respect from true boxing fans until you defeat Pacquiao. Don’t chicken out and end up fighting Cotto. Mayweather isn’t even a champion at 147 lbs. and he considers himself the best pound for pound? How can you say that about yourself if you don’t even have the welterweight title?

  41. JcFoo Says:

    1. floyd will make this fight a les action fight, which will bore a lot of boxing fans.
    2. pacquiao will try to engage floyd, but its very hard because i see floyd back pedaling and using his jab, and “soft” right hand lead.
    3. From time to time the agression of pacquiao will lead him to some good punches.
    4. floyd will hit pacquiao with good shots while pacquiao is coming to him.
    5. pacquiao will realize that floyd can”t hurt him.
    6. pacquiao will be more agressive and throw more punches. many will miss but floyd will still get hit.
Floyd being FLoyd will not get Knockout, hurt, and cutted in this fight, because hes an execellent def fighter, but agains pacquiao he will get diferent results because of the speed and the power threat of pacquiao.

PACQUIAO 116 MAYWEATHER 112. THE MOST ANTICIPATED FIGHT OF THE GENERATION. IS A BORING FIGHT. after the fight expect floyd to talk talk talk. thats also part of his defensive skills. remember hes not only dodging punches hes also dodging fighters. very elusive wow. this time he has no choice theres is very big money involed and hes a business man, why fight the biggest payday of hes life with risk, hes gonna get the money and lose BUT NOT HURT like COTTO DLH and every fighter got eaten by pacman.

Sorry for the English guys. im frm puerto rico.
anyway i dnt think anybody can beat Miguel that night. only pacman, Only PACMAN.

  42. boxing is back Says:

i think that pacquiao would destroy any one he faced against in the ring. cotto lasted 12 rounds against the best fighter there ever was. so that tells you something about cotto. mayweather a defense fighter will run 12 rounds but i think that pacquiao’s speed, power, and stamina will be to much for mayweather.

  43. floydfan-atic-lol Says:

there can’t be two best fighters….theres only one floyd mayweather lol….i like that….say you’re prayers suckers…..speed vs speed…offence vs defence…boxer vs brawler…former p4p vs curent p4p…..don’t back out now…..make it happen pacquiao

  44. jamsakadik1 Says:

mayweather defense came from his shining right shoulder shield that hides his right face. but when paquaio deliver his left trademark mayweathers defense is nothing like zab judah mayweather has no shoulder defense with judah’s punch.

  45. jamsakadik1 Says:

    hmmadhasjh

  46. anonymous Says:

    go mayweather kick pacquiao’s ass

  47. kamoteking Says:

LIGHTNING SPEED plus great defense(mayweather) VS. SPEED OF LIGHT plus super earthquake(pacquiao)…let’s see come 2010…

  48. maan pelaez-anicete Says:

mayweather (summer)? it will be juneweather (rainy days in the philippines) when the pacman fights him!fists will rain and floyd will use his shoulder as umbrella, which will get punctured by the bullet rains of pacman…

  49. ara mina Says:

yeah you should start to practice floyed…you will need it.

  50. Emill Says:

Mr. Floyd Mayweather Jr ..Go! Kick Pacman Ass!! But i’m sure your FACE! would be like a kicked pacman ASS! After the fight.

Money can’t buy pinoy pride.. money would beg for the pinoy pride.

  51. 1rhino Says:

    Hey ACE-
Thanks for trying! Get a good rest and looking forward to your articles.

  52. GUEST Says:

FLOYD CAN’T BEAT AN EGG, AND EVERYONE IS JUST LAUGHING WHEN HE TRIES TO ACT TOUGH AND TALK A LOT OF SMACK. FLOYD, YOU WILL BE THE EASIEST FIGHT FOR MANNY, AND GUARANTEED YOU WILL NEED A BRAIN SCAN AFTER THE FIGHT, AND THAT WILL RETIRE YOU PERMANENTLY.

  53. Erik Says:

When Floyd get scared, he talks a lot of BS. Everyone is just laughing and ignoring MOTOR MOUTH FLOYD, whenever he talks like he’s tough guy. OOOOHHHH WE ARE SO SCARED OF YOU FLOYD!!! ha ha ha ha ha, easy night for Manny.

  54. Fraud Mayweather Says:

As a point of reference, here is your interview with RA The Rugged Man http://www.zshare.net/audio/676796581a1c2a9e/ where he exposed your sorry behind and showed your true colors on why you wouldn’t face any legitimate contender. In the interview, you gave just about every excuse in the world why you wouldn’t face each legitimate fighter.

  55. BeWare LOC44 Says:

Mayweather will easily outbox Pacman if this fight happens…a good defense beats a good offense anyday and haha a boring fight, yall make me laugh ask yourself if u were a boxer u wanna go out like cotto taking punishment..hell no use ur defense why engage with a brawler that makes no sense

  56. mikey Says:

Mayweather is all talk! I hope Pacman beats him worse then Cotto and Hatton put all together so that he wil shut his mouth! 40 fights but who did he fight with big names?
