Bob Arum: “If Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to fight Manny Pacquiao… he knows who to call. Period!”
By Ace Freeman (16-Nov-2009)

Bob Arum spoke to the assembled media last night about the next potential opponent for Manny Pacquiao and had a message for one Floyd Mayweather Jr.!

Bob Arum: “Manny Pacquiao is open to fighting anyone. I am making that statement now. I am not going to put up with any nonsense, I’m not going to put up with any trash talk, and I’m not going to negotiate a fight in the newspapers. If Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to fight Manny… he knows who to call. Period. Let him call me!”

  1. gakiis47 Says:

Let’s get this over with! 60 -40 split for the 7 time world champion PACMAN. If not, 50 – 50 split down the middle at the worst. Anything less for the 7 time 7 division world champion is foolish. Pacquiao deserves more than anyone, especially the loudmouthed Mayweathers combined.

  2. migz Says:

    hey corrections!

    not seven!!

its 7 world champion in 5 different division.. NOT SEVEN !!

the other 2 belt of pacquiao aren’t recognized as proffesional.. not wbo, wba, wbc and ibf !!

  3. kamoteking Says:

60-40 favor on the king pacman…if floyd refuse to that i guess he was making excuses not to fight the king…coz he’s afraid of what he saw last night when the king pacman terrorize cotto…

  4. gakiis47 Says:

    migs,

thanks for the info. I was referring to the 7 weight divisions here that PACMAN has won titles regardless whether it is major, minor, or regional.

  5. Anonymous Says:

ring magazine belt also a prop. title!!

  6. gakiis47 Says:

    Lineal Championship titles he held

    * World flyweight champion
    * World featherweight champion
    * World junior lightweight champion
    * World junior welterweight champion

It’s like saying he owned these weight divisions by being the best.

  7. Bill Johnson Says:

50 – 50 split. Lets not get carried away I’m a massive Pac Man fan but lets be honest this is Floyd Mayweather Jr he may be fighting.

  8. PINOYPRIDE Says:

Cmon man im a pacmam fan but i think floyd deserves money as well.. you all wanna see pac fight floyd so it should be atleast 50/50, cause if you give 51/49 to pacquiao, floyd will never fight him, so it should be 50/50.

  9. the expert Says:

55/45 is the right split… pacman 55 and mayweather 45, coz pacman is the real deal….

not mayweather his just arrogant but in the end embarrassing…

  10. forest Says:

Floyd will way in 155lbs and pay the penalty fees etc. He fights scared and he will be broken down by Manny. Take the 50/50 purse Floyd and No excuses

  11. twanaz816 Says:

Lets keep this clean, 50/50 should get it done but, if they both confident that they will win(which we know they both are) Lets make it 60/40 to the winner!! That has to be attractive to both, with the possibility of walking away with the 60%.

I am a true boxing fan, and I see people talking about loud mouth floyd and this that and another, but lets really be honest.

Cotto as good of a fighter as he is, really broke down after the 3rd round. Granit it had something to do with all the rights and lefts he was taking , but it also had something to do with his condition.

Pac is a hell of a fighter, and arguably the best, but the arguement is with the likes of Mayweather.

They match up very, very well. Pac will make him fight, but Mayweathers D is beyond great. They both through punches from differnt angles, all though Pac has a slight edge in that. Mayweather is a surgeon with his punches, and is extremely accurate. He can take advantage of Pac leaving himself open after he punches. Both fighters are extremely conditioned, and could fight 15 rounds. As much as I enjoy watching both men fight. I really can’t give a clear cut winner. LETS BE HONEST!!!!!!

P.S. take all the emotions out of it please

  12. Bryson Bell Says:

Its not even fair to compare PacMan to Money. C’mon man. PacMan dismantles slow opponents who dont have a great mental game. Thats what happened to Cotto. He was doing great with his jab and boxing PacMan, but mentally he got over-confident and lost focus. Thats how got clocked by all the punches he did not see. Mayweather, in fact- has a great mental game. There is no blueprint to beat Floyd, what tapes are Roach going to Study? Floyd kicking ass and remaining undefeated. Manny had so many flaws in the Cotto fight, hes great at beating up brawlers.

  13. Bigkat Says:

    Twanaz

I agree with your assessment. It would be difficult to pick a winner in this fight. It’ll be interesting to see what the odds/spread are when it is announced. Objectively speaking I’d have to give a slight advantage on paper to Floyd, but I also thought Cotto had the advantage and he literally looked like an amateur fighting Manny. Manny truly is amazing. I think Floyd presents a whole different set of problems though starting with his defense. No boxer today fights as well off his back foot than Floyd, and his defense is all but impregnable. However, if any boxer could “shake him up” it’s Manny.

  14. gakiis47 Says:

Floyd Excuses Mayweather Jr, Floyd Excuses Mayweather Sr., Roger Excuses Mayweather. They have the same middle name. Why can’t they just admit, Pacman is the current P4P, the current champ, one of the all time greats alongside Ali, Hagler, etc. He is the real crowd drawer coz he fights the best.

  15. Dreamliner Says:

    Bryson…good take,

I think 50/50 would be fare. but we have to factor in what fighters have done over the years to make this process the way it is. Perfect example would be Oscar and his demands of the lions share based on his popularity instead of being a champ or even being undefeated.

Think about all the fights where fighters have gotten the lions share only based on them being more popular, and that’s why PBF will demand at least 55/45.

From what I’ve read Manny doesn’t get most of his purse anyways, which is a crime by itself.

In closing, Manny definitely earned a spot of greatness in the history books, and whether your a PBF fan or not you should admit that!!!!!

  16. Anonymous Says:

in my opinion manny is more popular than floyd if someone has to get the 55/45 split its manny hes the one who has beaten all the top names latelly.

  17. tony Says:

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is the challenger in this fight. He doesn’t hold a belt, only the belt that holds up his pants. He has to earn it. Pacquiao won the welterweight belt, let Jr sit down and wait to be called. If he is proud of his ZERO losses, he should fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr who also has no losses. No loss means nothing. Pacquiao has 50 wins. How many wins does Mayweather have?????? Pacquiaoo deserves the lion’s share since JHr is just the challenger.
He has no right to assumje his belt just because he came back from retirement. He has to earn it. And this is the first step to earning it, fight Pacquiao as a challenger! PERIOD.

  18. dontbeafool Says:

Floyd can barely sell any tickets in Vegas that rescheduled his fight (c’mon, who believes that he has fractured ribs?) that forced him to aggressively promote after the postponement.

Secondly, Floyd WAS the P4P king THEN but he’s a nobody after his retirement. he just won against JMM, a great lightweight but a nobody in WW, whom he cannot KO even with enormous advantage by getting over his catchweight.

in the end, I think PBF has to prove people wrong wrong. He just ducked SSM and MP is by now the best fighter he can ever face after ODLH. I think a 70/30 split in favor of MP is rasonable with 65/35 at its worst.

  19. Joe Bruiser Says:

sorry guys, but economics will reign supreme in this fight.

it doesn’t matter who is more popular or who you like more or who has accomplished more.

what matters is who is a proven money maker.

and at this point, they are pretty even, with Floyd having an advantage when it comes to PPV sales (although, we’ll see how the Cotto fight did this week).

If the Cotto fight didn’t do at least 1 million buys, its going to be a hard sell to try to explain to Floyd that he doesn’t deserve more money.

If it did 1 million or more a 50/50 split would probably get it done.

If this fight somehow did 2 or 3 million buys, then maybe pacquiao would have an argument for wanting a bigger split.

  20. Anwar Jamison Says:

Thanks for bringing some level-headedness to the discussion Joe!

For those who said Pac deserves more because he is the champion…why did Cotto only get half of what Pac did for this fight when he was the champion in this fight?

    Because the belt doesn’t matter.

It is amazing to me and somewhat hilarious how a lot of people are trying to discredit Floyd Mayweather’s entire existence now, as if he isn’t an amazing, and yes, accomplished boxer.

I understand he signed up for that when he decided to play up the “villain” image, but that’s also when his notoriety and paydays increased.

Realistically, Floyd Mayweather’s PPV numbers far exceeded Pacquiao’s against common opponents (De La Loya, Hatton, Marquez).

Also, let’s be real here, no one outside of hardcore and I mean HARDCORE fight fans had any idea who Marquez was. So for Mayweather to do over a million PPV buys against him was eye-opening.

You can’t in any way compare that to the numbers for Pacquiao/Cotto because Miguel Cotto is a star in his own right. That was a matchup of two stars, with Pacquiao being the bigger of the two.

Like Joe said, if the numbers for this Saturday’s fight come in at 2-3 million, then maybe Pacquiao has a case then for a bigger split, but if the numbers are anywhere near the numbers of Mayweather/Marquez, then Floyd obviously still deserves the bigger split.

I appreciate what Pacquiao has brought to boxing these past 3 fights, but some people are speaking a little emotionally instead of rationally.

  21. kobe Says:

I GOT A BETTER PURSE SPLIT……WHOEVER WINS GETS THE BIGGER POT…THATS IT

  22. Raybo Says:

A Pacquiao/Mayweather event is still a dream, but is still a real possibility. Is the money right, both have a lot to lose prestige wise. I personally would like to see a winner takes all but the chance of that is as remote as remote can get. An incentive for a great fight needs to be had for a great fight to be a great fight. I ilke the idea of a 60/40 split for the the winner. I would also like to see a clause for the two combatants to make the weight. Let’s base this fight on talent, conditioning and the like to eliminate any speculation about the final victor. I, no doubt am dreaming, but it sure would be nice if we could just boil this down to two great warriors in a match to determine who “REALLY IS THE BEST POUND FOR POUND FIGHTER”. Let’s get back to boxing!!! Economics is still economics but let’s hope there is a little more incentive for the winner. It would help to know who really wants the victory. After all this could be the very last fight for either one of these combatants. Retirement for either one may very well be the only option after suffering a loss to the other. Could Floyd’s ego handle it, could Manny’s living legend reputation handle it???

  23. raeven john Says:

I think Pacman is draw compared to mayweather. why? Pacman is very entertaining while Mayweather is luck of excitement in the ring….. plus!!! He chose those fighters not a real welterweight. If mayweather want to fight Pacman, He is required to test his capacity to fight the real welterweight such as, Shane Mosley, Cotto, margarito, malignali and or paul williams the light middle weight…….

  24. Bigkat Says:

    The purse!

Lots of good and valid comments here. I think it’s safe to say, at this point, that Manny could not be expected to take anything less than half the purse in a bout with Mayweather. Lets face it, Manny is the man right now. In the eyes of most pundits and fans alike he is the best, and as Freddie Roach rightly said: “Manny puts asses in the seats!”

Manny has won, and more importantly, he’s won emphatically and impressively. He’s fought with passion and aggression, which makes for an exciting bout. Floyd boxes very conservatively with controlled precision, which although successful, is not nearly as exciting visually as Manny’s fights. I think Manny is the bigger draw, and I think the numbers from this fight will prove that.

I hope both sides will be open minded and realistic in the forth coming negotiations. I like the idea Raybo suggested regarding the 60/40 split for the winner; however, that most likely won’t go over well with either party. At the very least it should be a 50/50 split and may the best man win.

  25. Anonymous Says:

So, Floyd makes JMM move up 3 weight classes, saps him of his speed, fights one time and suddenly he deserves more money? On the otherhand Pac has been busy putting behinds on seats while he was gone, carrying boxing on his shoulders, making boxing relevant again because of his remarkable mega fight performances. He stayed busy. Now compare their work. No Contest Pacman deserves more money. I can’t believe people are giving Fraud the liar a free lunch.

  26. JcFoo Says:

    1. floyd will make this fight a les action fight, which will bore a lot of boxing fans.
    2. pacquiao will try to engage floyd, but its very hard because i see floyd back pedaling and using his jab, and “soft” right hand lead.
    3. From time to time the agression of pacquiao will lead him to some good punches.
    4. floyd will hit pacquiao with good shots while pacquiao is coming to him.
    5. pacquiao will realize that floyd can”t hurt him.
    6. pacquiao will be more agressive and throw more punches. many will miss but floyd will still get hit.
Floyd being FLoyd will not get Knockout, hurt, and cutted in this fight, because hes an execellent def fighter, but agains pacquiao he will get diferent results because of the speed and the power threat of pacquiao.

PACQUIAO 116 MAYWEATHER 112. THE MOST ANTICIPATED FIGHT OF THE GENERATION. IS A BORING FIGHT. after the fight expect floyd to talk talk talk. thats also part of his defensive skills. remember hes not only dodging punches hes also dodging fighters. very elusive wow. this time he has no choice theres is very big money involed and hes a business man, why fight the biggest payday of hes life with risk, hes gonna get the money and lose BUT NOT HURT like COTTO DLH and every fighter got eaten by pacman.

Sorry for the English guys. im frm puerto rico.
anyway i dnt think anybody can beat Miguel that night. only pacman, Only PACMAN.

  27. ara mina Says:

    calling calling… hello? anybody home??

  28. easalamat Says:

I think Floyd is just a loudmouth!
If Floyd is asconfident as he seems about himself, maybe they should try a WINNER TAKE ALL bout.

I dont know about how they negotiate the split of money, but I think this will make their match more interesting if that loudmouth know that the loser will just take home bruises!

    lol

  29. jovilito1974 Says:

MR ACE FREEMAN WE ARE WAITING FOR YOUR INTERVIEW WITH ROGER MAYWEATHER.

  30. illnautx Says:

thats right bob.. let him call u.. he nids u n ur team.. not ur team nids him..

  31. gakiis47 Says:

Odds-makers as early as now pick PACMAN over LOUDMOUTH. Its just amazing. LOUDMOUTH tagged as the underdog?

Again another blow to his EGO.

  32. elvin Says:

There is no sense fighting Mayweather. Trully by doing so only gives him the oppurtunity to earn big bucks. Mayweather will just do what Cotto have done from rounds 8 to 12….RUNNING!!! I dont think Pacman has the ability to catch a great runner like Mayweather. He will employ the only trick effective to defeat Pacman and this Mayweather is the real expert. NO ONE CAN BOX HEAD ON WITH THE PACMAN. Many have tried and all failed. And Mayweather is not dumb and he knows he has no choice. Mark my word….he will invite Carl Lewis in his corner.

  33. edi d pogi Says:

In as much as I want to see fight between MP and FM, I know its gonna be boring.FM will never fight headon..sure he ll jab but thats all, just finish the fight running and get big bucks. He got in trouble w/ Hatton in the early round but MP can take it and Floyd knows it..the only incentive to really fight is 70/30 for the winner then we all can watch what we paid to really see!
