Freddie Roach: “With the way Manny is punching right now we will knock Cotto out!” (Notes from Camp Pacquiao)
By FightFan.com Staff (20-Oct-2009)

Manny Pacquiao is rounding out his training in the Philippines at Gerry Peñalosa’s Gym in Mandaluyong City. Today the pound-for-pound king did eleven rounds on the mitts with trainer Freddie Roach. Read on for the latest from Camp Pacquiao!

“Manny is hitting so hard right now in camp… so fluently that with the way he’s punching we’re going to knock (Cotto) out.” Freddie Roach said from Manny Pacquiao’s training camp earlier today in the Philippines. “His right hook is so strong right now I’m experiencing a lot of pain in my arm from doing pad work.”

Roach and Pacquiao are at the Gerry Peñalosa Boxing Gym in Mandaluyong City, Philippines where the light welterweight world champion is currently concluding the portion of camp being held in his home country. Team Pacquiao is set to leave for Los Angeles on Oct. 24 to wrap up training camp at Roach’s famed Wild Card gym. Several members of Pacquiao’s camp spoke to local media on Monday and by all accounts Pacquiao is hitting his stride in training.

“His speed and quickness are amazing,” commented unbeaten junior middleweight sparring partner Shawn Porter. “Those are elements I use in my game so I know how effective they will be in his match.”

Having an excellent vantage point to watch Pacquiao at work, former world champion Gerry Peñalosa was pleased with what he saw sitting in on the training session. Peñalosa feels Pacquiao will stop Miguel Cotto when the two clash on November 14 in Las Vegas.

“I am every bit confident that the Pacman will devour Miguel Cotto… Manny might be the smaller guy but he was so fast,” Peñalosa commented in his article on the coveted Filipino website Philboxing.com. “Manny looks very focused and determined.”

Pacquiao is rumored to be around the 149 pound mark with just over four weeks to go until fight night. Being able to eat five times a day has the champ looking strong and fierce and he is on pace to make the 145 pound limit with ease. Strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza has Pacquiao eating a lot of fish which has increased his protein intake.

“I feel good.” Pacquiao commented Monday. With only four days remaining until he leaves for America, it’s all systems go in Camp Pacquiao.

yeah yeah yeah we will see what happens on Nov 14

  2. f Says:

    you wish freddie.

  3. floydfan Says:

Sooner or later your going to be wrong Freddie Roach and November 14 might just be the day.

  4. Femmo Says:

Floydfan tell you boy to fight some real opposition

  5. mikesman Says:

The Pacman looks solid as he moves in and latter out of Gerry Penalosa gym yesterday. I had the oppotunity to talk and wish him the best of luck. He is really so humble and kind. I got video and pictures of the P4P king. How can you beat Pacman with his gesture of humility, hard work and the whole nation prays for him.

  6. Ace Freeman Says:

That’s cool mikesman, how did Manny look physically in terms of his weight? They say he’s about 149 now.

Did he look bigger or just really in-shape?

  7. money foyd Says:

freddies wrong this time i think cotto gots enough to stop pacquiao

  8. Gener Alcoreza Says:

Whoever wins, these two are the greatest fighters of this decade and would surely give us our moneys worth. Bravo, what a match up.

  9. mikesman Says:

Thanks Ace, yes he looks 149 to 148 the least. He is so happy and quite unbeatable. His sparring partners are bigger than him while mr. Porter has a bit of mark on his left eyebrow. Definetly his sparmates looks very tough and i wonder how the Pacman can absorb their punches.

  10. mikesman Says:

The Great Freddie Roach looks so tired when he came out of the Gym. We cannot watch the actual sparring session because the management is so strict upon the order of Freddie and Gerry Penalosa. We waited manny hours just to have a glimpze of cast HBO crew was there covering the action.

  11. migz Says:

knock-out because of the weight again and again.

hey pacquiao your a jr welterweight now.. why you’re always crying baby for the weights ?

remember floyd are natural flyweight too. watch his amateur career..

  12. jon Says:

floydfan….mayweather likes 2 run in the ring…he should try to run on tracks…hahahahaha

  13. ara Says:

thats right roach…but its better not tell a lot..keep it secret…

  14. Ronz Says:

Hey Migz, I dunno you but you seem like a cry baby. This Hawaiian like knock you out! I root for da filipino!!

  15. S J Philster Says:

Freddie, right on. I just hope the Filipino boy can back it up this weekend. But this is one thing Floyd Jr. does not presently do . . . to fight the best fighter out there. He does not want Cotto, he does not want Paul Williams or Sugar Shane to drop to 147 to fight. Of course, after the Pacman victory on Saturday, he will certainly not want anything to do with Manny. In order to be considered the best, you have to face defeat. Even if you lose to any the people mentioned, you will not tarnish your record if you have WARS that will be remembered forever. Listen to RA Rugged Man get on it with Floyd. Its all over the internet.

  16. Moe Says:

Down down cotto! Pacman will give him a beating of his life.
