Tony Grano KO 4 Travis Kauffman

In a Friday night upset, unheralded heavyweight Tony Grano shocked previously unbeaten Travis Kauffman via fourth round knockout earlier this evening in Santa Ynez, CA on a Friday night edition of ShoBox: The New Generation on Showtime. Both fighters traded bombs early and often and it was an exciting fight while it lasted. In a contender for ‘Round of the Year’, Grano was in all kinds of trouble in Round 4 but came back to batter Kauffman into submission. The bout was stopped with seconds remaining in the fourth stanza, giving Grano the upset knockout victory. With the win Grano improved to 16-1-1 (13 KOs) while Travis Kauffman dropped to 18-1 (15 KOs) suffering his first pro defeat.

Chris Avalos TKO4 Giovanni Caro

On the undercard, undefeated bantamweight prospect Chris Avalos (12-0, 10KO) was in a fantastic scrap with durable Giovanni Caro before finishing him with a massive sweeping right hand in Round 4. Both fighters traded hard shots throughout the bout, but the 19 year-old Avalos finally stunned Caro in the fourth before putting him down with the right. The ref immediately waved off the bout and Caro remained on the canvass for several minutes before finally rising on unsteady legs. Caro was actually ahead on all three judges’ cards at the time of the stoppage, but the bout was highly competitive while it lasted.
