Jean Pascal speaks on Diaconu fight (with highlights!)

By FightFan.com Staff (21-Jun-2009)

Jean Pascal: “Diaconu was very strong even though I was able to knock him down. Then at the end of the fifth he caught me with a shot behind the ear. It was toward the back of my head and that would make anyone dizzy. I took all his punches and proved that I’m the best. I feel that Carl Froch hits twice as hard as Diaconu. I was able to risk staying on the inside with Diaconu, but I wouldn’t have wanted to be around too long on the inside against Froch. I honestly feel Froch is stronger than Diaconu. Carl Froch is a very solid puncher. I would rate Froch as the better fighter.”

Jean Pascal post fight quotes:

“You need to think big for the life you want. I always thought that I was the best and that is why I’m the best now. If I thought I was second best, I would have come in second place tonight.

My game plan was to dance and use my footwork because I’m faster than him and smarter than him. I knew he would get tired later on in the fight. I think my gas tank was running low at the end but I did my best and I threw some bombs. At the end I was exhausted but happy with the way I fought. I knew that when he got tired I’d have the advantage and that is why I’m the new champion!

Diaconu was very strong even though I was able to knock him down. Then at the end of the fifth he caught me with a shot behind the ear. It was toward the back of my head and that would make anyone dizzy. I took all his punches and proved that I’m the best. I’d like to thank my big brother. I took a lot of punches from him growing up and that’s why I take such a good shot. It made taking punches in the ring not as bad.

I would rate Froch as the better fighter.

I learned a lot in the Froch fight, and that was a fight I fought entirely with an injured bicep. I have matured a lot since then and am better for it. This is not the end goal here, this is just the beginning. There is a lot more to be achieved yet.”

GREAT performance from Pascal, I really didn’t give Diaconu a round and had Jean taking about 8 with the rest even.

His boxing was smooth and he wasn’t afraid to mix it up either.

If he sorts out his sloppyness when fighters get inside, like side stepping a bit more instead of bending low and grabbing, I think he has the tools to take out Dawson, who lets face it, maybe lucky to beat Johnson in a re-match.

Hats off to Jean, very nice performance.
