Return of the King: Mayweather vs. Marquez set for 7/18!

At a press conference earlier today in Las Vegas it was officially announced that Floyd Mayweather Jr. will end his retirement and face pound-for-pound stalwart Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18 in a PPV titled “Number One/Numero Uno” at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Mayweather’s last fight was a December 2007 victory over Ricky Hatton. Both Mayweather and Marquez looked confident as they faced off for the media.

It depends at what weight catch Mayweather/Marquez meet yet something tells me Mayweather Jr is going to be too dam fast and strong for Juan Manuel Marquez

I’m guessing if Mayweather Jr does in fact beat J.M. Marquez I at least won’t have the privilage of watching Pacquiao versus J.M.Marquez one more time

this is only a controversial fight not a good fight to watch bec both fighters keeps on backing up, both fighters are boring. well, in fairness to them both fighter had accomplish a lot, but still i think this will be a boring fight. the only intensity this fight has is to know who will be the next opponent of pacman.

mayweather is a smart fighter but he is also boring marquez is smart and exiting. mayweather is fast marquez is a counter puncher but im not sure if he will be able to counter punch mayweather because of his reflexes mayweather is young and marquez is old witch means marquez has more experience hmm and mayweather has great defensive skills im not sure who will win this fight but i think it will be a good match.

I agree with BAWSE Marquez is a good fighter, but DOES NOT stand a chance with Mayweather. Both Pac-man and Money are great fighters, but Mayweather is the smarter fighter and will pull out a UD over Manny after he beats Marquez of course.

I expect this to be a great technical fight. Mayweather is obviously the bigger guy but I don’t think that will play a huge factor. Floyd’s not an impossing welter or even jr welter.

I think Juan Diaz would have given Floyd more problems than De La Hoya or the Rickster.

I’d like to see Marquez win here. I think he has a great chance on beating Mayweather. But then again, these are two smart fighters right here. As exciting as they are, they may give a very boring fight… (pure defense, not so much offense) :)

If you look at JMM last 3 fights…he has taken punishment in all 3. He leaves himself open on many combination’s, which makes him look exciting because of the exchanges. He’s a great fighter, but moving up in weight (OVER 10 POUNDS) to take on the best is a huge obstacle that he wont overcome. Mayweather can easily win by UD, but if he fights offensively, it will be a early night for JMM. Think about the Jesus Chavez vs PBF fight with upper cuts and overhand rights.

This is gonna be a 12 rounder if Marquez gets passed the 3rd round(which he will b/c Mayweather will be running to the other side of the ring). Marquez studies his opponents in the early rounds and doesn’t start firing till the middle rounds. Mayweather frustrates his opponents by getting them bored and catching them off-guard. He should fight in the UFC where it’s boring and all they do is hug. Marquez is a champion.

in the next pacman fight he should get the service of julian felipe to sing the phil nat. anthem bec there will be no more singers willing to sing it. its scary!!the bright boys in congress will sue you if you do not sing it like julian felipe’s version. star spangled banner is sang by a lot of artist with different version and the sing it with passion. in my opinion,the law re- the nat anthem needs amendment. its an obsolete law

this fight is interesting but it will be boring…..
mayweather is a hit & runner while marquez is a counter-puncher…. i just can’t imagine how these guys are gonna make this fight entertaining with their styles….
marquez may try to be aggresive and remove himself from his counter-punching style to initiate the action but i don’t think his fast or quick enough to catch floyd…..
