FightFan.com’s Saturday Scorecard!
By FightFan.com Staff (02-May-2009)

Humberto Soto KO 9 Benoit Gaude

All action Mexican slugger Humberto Soto knocked out Canada’s Benoit Gaude moments ago in Las Vegas, Nevada. Soto opened strong dropping Gaude in Round 1, but the Canadian challenger survived the early storm. Gaude used good movement early on, but Soto’s aggressiveness carried the majority of the early rounds. In the middle of the fight Gaude seemed to find some comfort and confidence and began to trouble Soto with his movement and defense. Soto, still with the power advantage, managed to use his strength to equalize Gaude’s awkward rhythm. A well placed Soto uppercut in Round 9 signaled the begining of the end for the brave Canadian, as he was knocked down hard. He gallantly got up, but his legs didn’t hold. Referee Jay Nady stopped the bout just as Gaude was going down for the second time. With the win Soto improved to 48-7-2 (31 KOs) and retained his WBC super featherweight title.

Matt Korobov TKO 2 Anthony Bartinelli

Rising Russian born middleweight star Matt Korobov made quick work of opponent Anthony Bartinelli moments ago in Las Vegas on the Pacquiao vs. Hatton undercard. Korobov, a big punching mechanically sound southpaw, put his entire arsenal on full display over the four plus minutes the fight lasted. Huge straight left hands to the head and body put a world of hurt on Bartinelli as Korobov landed nearly 70 per cent of his punches. After one knock down in Round 2, referee Robert Byrd waived the fight off at 2:15 awarding Korobov (5-0, 5 KOs) a second round stoppage.

Daniel Jacobs W UD8 Michael Walker

Fighting for the sixteenth time in eighteen months, Brooklyn’s Danny Jacobs moved to an impressive 16-0 (15 KOs) with a tough eight round decision victory over the rugged Michael Walker moments ago in Las Vegas. After fighting just one week ago, Jacobs stepped in on short notice to face Walker when James Kirkland withdrew due to legal problems. The once beaten Walker gave Jacobs a spirited challenge but the 22 year old rising star showed an excellent ability to adapt as he switched to boxing in Round 2 and did it well. After eight hard fought rounds Jacobs was awarded a unanimous decision win by scores of 80-72 (x2) and 79-73.

I must admitt I was very impressed with Benoit Gaude prior to the stoppage.

As a matter a fact I’ve seen Benoit Gaude fight live several times before and let me tell you guys the man has improved he just lacked punching power against hard hitter Humberto Soto.
