Boxing mourns the passing of one of it’s all time greats this weekend as former world heavyweight champion Ingemar Johansson passed away yesterday at the age of 76 after a long fight with Alzheimer’s disease. Pictured here with the heavyweight title, Johansson enjoyed a successful career as a heavyweight. He retired in 1963 with a record of 26 wins, 17 by KO, and only 2 losses, and in 2003 was named to the Ring Magazine’s list of 100 greatest punchers of all time. He is perhaps best remembered for his three epic fights with the late great Floyd Patterson, the first of which saw him capture the world heavyweight championship in 1959 when he stopped Patterson in just three rounds (scoring seven knock downs in the process). Rest in peace Ingo.
