This fight was hard to score, some rounds were pretty even. At the beginning there were a couple of headbutts, it was an ugly fight. This fight was not as I expected.
Oquendo I feel did not intentional punch Toney behind his head. Toney just kept slipping punches therefore it looked like Oquendo was trying to punch Toney behind his head. In that 8th round Toney got saved, if it was not for the ref Toney was hurt and looked like he was on his way down.
I must say I was not impressed with Toney’s performance. At first I expected Toney to outbox and beat Oquendo by unanimous decision. Instead Toney hardly landed counter shots. Toney just could not pull the trigger. Toney was too slow.
However I must say Oquendo did too much clinching throughout the entire fight. Oquendo did land a couple of big right hands especially in that 12th round. I had given Oquendo at least 7 rounds therefore I felt Fres got screwed. Fres Oquendo should have won this fight.

I had it six rounds a piece with the point loss tipping it in Toney’s direction.
Neither of them looked good, and it was an even but sloppy fight.
Both guys need to hang them up. JT can’t slip punches quite the same, nor can he counter with the same reflex like he could before. Now that age has slowed him down and he’s in with these naturally bigger guys he can’t really hurt he’s too far behind the eight ball.
A historic career but it’s time for it to end.
Fres was never a top top heavyweight, and I think he’s a bit past it as well. Retiring whit his faculties in tact would be a good idea.

Ace,
I agree both should retire.
I believe Toney’s time has come, I expected to see a lot more from “Lights Out”.

Been a fan of JT since the early days, but I am beginning to think it’s time hang up the gloves too. Not enough punches being thrown and he’s not slipping enough anymore…what a career and what a legend. He doesn’t get enough credit.
